Somebody thought about you this week.

Maybe a song came on. Maybe they walked past somewhere you used to go together. Maybe they remembered something you said years ago and laughed at it all over again.

For a few seconds, you were right there.

Then the moment passed. They got on with their day. They never sent the message.

You have probably done the same thing.

That is the strange part about a friendship that goes quiet: the silence is visible. The affection often isn’t.

A quiet thread can look like distance even when both people still care. Sometimes what went missing was the office, the class, or the Saturday thing that kept putting you together.

Not every quiet friendship is waiting to be picked up. But silence alone does not tell you which kind you have.

This week is about making it a little easier to find out.

Let’s dive in. 🧡

Sacramento brought little walkers, big smiles, and enough personality for three photos. ☀️

Detroit proved an umbrella can double as a team uniform. ☔️

🏆 The Board Walks crossed 20+ cities.

New hosts are now discovering the mission and applying to bring it to their cities without Cameron and Elle recruiting each person individually. What began as one Saturday walk in Austin is becoming something people are volunteering to carry forward themselves.

🏆 Nashville’s walkers are making plans beyond Saturday.

After the chapter’s most fluid walk yet, people started exchanging numbers and building friendships outside the group. The clearest sign a community is working may be when the relationships no longer need the event to continue.

🏆 Frank is getting ready to keep San Antonio walking.

With host Forrest traveling in October, Frank learned check-in, studied the opening and route, and will co-host next week before covering three Saturdays. The walk can now keep its rhythm even when its usual host is away.

When a friendship goes quiet, the instinct is to try harder.

But affection is not always the problem.

Sometimes the friendship simply lost the structure that used to carry it.

This week’s Trail Tale offers five ways to keep it alive without turning it into another task you are failing.

The Board Talks · Coming October 2nd

Some trail conversations deserve more than one morning.

We are taking one extra week to get the first episode right. Expect longer conversations with some of our favorite people we have met through The Board Walks.

Look for our first conversation in next Friday’s Debrief.

Section divider introducing topics people have brought to the walks

This week on The Board Walks, people brought these topics:

  1. “When do you let go of trying to change someone?”

  2. “Do you ever feel like you are wasting time?”

  3. “What is the first song you remember loving as a child?”

  4. “If you could have any skill instantly, what would you do with it?”

  5. “What is your biggest green flag?”

Screenshot these. Steal with pride. Bring one to your next dinner party to shift the conversation from “meh” to marvelous.

Quick hits:

💬 Bring the friend you keep meaning to text.

“I’m going for a walk Saturday. Want to come?” is a whole invitation. You do not need to catch up on six months of life before you make the plan.

The walk is already organized. The two of you just need to choose a Saturday. Who did this email make you think of? Hit reply and tell us.

🥾 Four weeks, four ways into friendship.

September’s Trail Tales followed the second hangout, the empty weekend, the places where we belong, and the friendships we want to keep. If you missed one, they are waiting in the archive.

🌍 Could you help a city find its Saturday rhythm?

Hosting means making space for people to return, welcoming the new faces, and helping the conversation get started. If that sounds like your kind of Saturday, we would love to hear from you.

What’s alive in The Board:

Most communities are built around meeting more people. The Board is built around being known by the same ones.

It is a smaller room for honest questions, real follow-through, and the conversations that need more than one Saturday.
