Most questions bounce off.
"How was your weekend?" "Wild weather, huh?"
We hand them back and forth like spare change and forget them by the next block.
But every so often, someone asks the kind of question that doesn't bounce.
It finds the thing you've been quietly carrying for years and asks, gently, why you're still holding it.
And something gives way.
We've watched a person walk in with a story they'd told themselves for a decade: “I'm behind, I lost the fight, I wasted those years.”
By mile five it's on the trail behind them, like a boulder they didn't know they were allowed to set down.
This weekend, the US celebrates its independence. We love to celebrate this word loudly. Flags, parades, fireworks, and marching bands. But the kind that changes a life tends to be quiet.
One good question, one honest answer, and the strange freedom of finally seeing a thing clearly. 🧡

From our walking villages in 16+ cities around the world:

Walk #204 in Austin. We asked someone walking by to take the photo. Their dog jumped in at the last second. 🐶

Sacramento Walk #15. Host Megan keeps building something really special out here. 🌞

Detroit Walk #23 with 25 people. The biggest one yet. Host Izzy keeps showing up and so does the squad. 🧡

Charles, a beloved regular in Austin, showed up with homemade biscuits for the whole group. This is the culture. 🥹
(Don’t see your city? We post the photos in each Meetup group after the walk. Otherwise this email would be longer than a CVS receipt.)

🏆 In Detroit, host Izzy’s aunt is getting married and put the walk on her wedding itinerary. “Fingers crossed people don’t get too wasted and want to come.” Tune in next week to see if they end up being the first couple in history to walk five miles on their wedding day! 💍
🏆 In Austin, a wave of first-timers from Meetup slid in like they'd been coming for months. The questions keep getting deeper, and people are taking real trust falls: rethinking who they lean on, setting boundaries, making bold moves at work. In Cameron’s words, “someone sprinkled magic pixie dust on the group.”
🏆 In Columbus, one question became a window into people’s defining life moments: “if you came into more money than you could ever spend, what would you pour it into?” One walker talked about getting support to young single fathers, after watching her own son become one at 16. Another: advocacy for people with disabilities. The question was a doorway, and the whole group walked through it.

A few Saturdays ago, Cam was walking with an Austin regular who always brings great energy to the group. Let’s call her Sarah.
She'd given the better part of a decade to a cause she believed in. Then she learned the man at the top had quietly enriched himself off it. So she went to war: lawyers, flights, years of it. And about a year ago, she finally let it go.
Cam listened the whole five miles. Then asked one question:
“What was the fight actually giving you?”
She went quiet for a while, and what she found in that silence is the whole piece.

This week on The Board Walks, people brought these topics:
"What gives you that kind of childlike joy where you could scream and forget about everything else?"
"What are you ready to let go of?"
"If you could re-live one day purely for the joy of it, what day would it be?"
"How do you figure out what you actually want in life, and what the next step looks like?"
"Is art an end or a means?"
Screenshot these. Steal with pride. Bring one to your next dinner party to shift the conversation from “meh” to marvelous.

Saturday morning. Five miles. No phones, no pitching, no pressure to perform.
Bring the question you keep circling.
Walk it out beside someone who wants to talk it out.
Have a whimsical week,
Founders of The Board Walks
P.s. Sarah didn't plan to have that conversation. She just showed up on a Saturday morning. That's the whole trick… you don't have to arrive with the answer. You just have to lace up. 🧡
