Who is free? Which side of town? Does Saturday work? Not this Saturday. The next one. Actually, could we do Sunday?
All of that, because you wanted to see somebody.
By the time something is on the calendar, you have done more coordinating than connecting.
Making plans is worth the effort. The strange part is how often it feels like the only way in.
Sometimes you do not want to organize a gathering. You just want to walk into one.
The bar where the bartender knows what you drink.
The same table every Thursday.
The walking group where you recognize a few faces and someone recognizes yours.
You might not call those people friends. But you do not have to start from zero every time you see them.
For once, being around people does not depend on you making it happen.
And when a place like that closes, becomes too expensive, or slips out of your routine, something that used to happen naturally becomes something you have to arrange.
You lose more than somewhere to go. You lose a way of finding each other.
This week's Trail Tale is about the places that make connection easier, what happens when we lose them, and what it takes to build that feeling again. 🧡

A few favorite moments from our walking cities.

Columbus, walk #54. The weather brought the drama. The crew brought the smiles. 🌧️

Nashville, making a pretty good case for getting out of bed on Saturday. 🧡

San Antonio, walk #6. A future host learning the ropes, and a crew that understood the hat assignment. 🤠
(Don’t see your city? We share more photos on Instagram and in each Meetup group. Otherwise this email would be longer than a CVS receipt.)

🏆 In Aveiro, exchanging numbers helped someone find a new home.
One walker was struggling to find housing in Portugal. Another introduced her to a rental agent. By the next walk, she had found somewhere new. That is a pretty excellent answer to “How was your week?”
🏆 A new chapter for the person leading Miami’s chapter.
Our Miami host Brian shared that he was starting a new job. He spends his Saturdays cheering other people on, and we’re happy to return the favor. Big congratulations, Brian! 🧡
🏆 We’ve been making room for conversations. Now we’re recording them.
The Board Talks launches next week, bringing a little of the trail to wherever you’re listening. A new chapter for The Board Walks, and one we’re excited to share with you. 🎙️

You want to get out of the house. But where can you go without buying something, booking ahead, or asking who’s free?
This week’s Trail Tale looks at the places that used to make that question easier, what happens when we lose them, and what’s worth looking for now.

The trail conversations are getting a microphone. 🎙️
Next week, we’re launching The Board Talks, a podcast with some of our favorite people we’ve met through The Board Walks.
Think of the conversation you weren’t quite ready to leave at the end of a walk. We’re making more room for those: the unexpected questions, the honest stories, and the things you’re still thinking about on the way home.
Our first conversation arrives Friday, September 25. No step count required.

Recently on The Board Walks, people brought these topics:
“Whose name brings a smile to your face, and why?”
“What hobby did you discover later in life?”
“How do you know when someone wants advice or just wants to be heard?”
“What purpose do knickknacks serve in your life?”
“What makes a friendship last a season rather than a lifetime?”
Screenshot these. Steal with pride. Bring one to your next dinner party to shift the conversation from "meh" to marvelous.

Quick hits:
💬 Where are you a regular?
Where do you go often enough to recognize the regulars? If you have lost a place like that, we would love to hear about that too.
Hit reply. We read every response, and we’ll ask before sharing yours.
🥾 Keep following the trail.
If this week’s piece got you thinking, there are more conversations waiting in the Trail Tales archive.
🧡 New around here?
Catch up on the people, questions, and little moments that have been making our Saturdays.

What’s alive in The Board:
Saturday gives you somewhere to return. The Board gives you a way to keep getting to know people in between.
Through monthly Salons and one-to-one Spark Calls, conversations have somewhere to continue instead of ending with “we should do this again.”
It’s a small, application-only community for people who want to make room for that kind of continuity.

Five miles. Saturday morning. Phones in pockets. Free, in 20+ cities.
Come on your own.
We’ve organized the walk, so you don’t need to coordinate anything or bring anyone.
And if you miss a week, no explanation needed.
Have a whimsical week,
Founders of The Board Walks
